And before becoming a writer, she was the captain of a swordboat, which earned her a prominent role in Sebastian Junger's own best-selling The Perfect Storm. He described her as ''one of the best captains, period, on the entire East Coast. When the Hannah Boden unloads her catch in Gloucester, swordfish prices plummet halfway across the world.'' 

Yeah, she's the hard-ass captain so memorably portrayed Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in the movie. Greenlaw now lives on Isle au Haut, Maine, where she still writes, and captains a lobster boat.
