Miss Cora M. Strayer’s Private Detective Agency

I can’t claim any credit for this one. It’s lifted from Paul Reda‘s amazing Miss Cora M. Strayer’s Private Detective Agency page  regarding a real-life private detective Cora M. Strayer (1867-1930), who ran an actual detective agency and lived a colorful life, full of mystery and multiple men and possibly a few scams) in the early part of the twentieth century.

Like Paul, I’m fascinated by the above photo, but Paul didn’t stop there. He’s compiled a truly impressive timeline of Strayer’s life that is well worth checking out, full of public notices, newspaper clippings, articles and ads. It’s a fine piece of detective work (conducted from the comfort of his couch, Paul ruefully admits) but don’t dismiss it! As he notes, “I HIGHLY recommend you click the links and read the articles. They’re amazing.”

What can I say? Paul’s right.
