Joe DeMarco

Created by Mike Lawson

Just in case the current ineffectualness and often mean-hearted spinelessness of political system doesn’t make you feel queasy enough about Washington politicians, there’s always JOE DeMARCO. He’s a D.C. troubleshooter, a sort of “congressional fix-it man,” who (mostly) works for House Majority Leader John Mahoney, in a series of well-regarded, politically-charged novels by Mike Lawson. Joe himself prefers “troubleshooter” over “bagman.”

The author is a former senior civilian executive for the U.S. Navy. He also writes a series about rough-around-the-edges DEA agent Kay Hamilton under the pen name M.A. Lawson.

UNDER OATH

  • “First-rate . . . Lawson’s series is the closest thing on the market today to the witty political thrillers of the late, great Ross Thomas.”
    — Booklist
  • ”Lawson’s House Divided is a non-stop thrill ride. The author has created a disturbingly real Washington, DC, and peopled it with eerily familiar characters. He writes with wit and verve and displays a shrewd understanding of bureaucratic irony. Thoroughly enjoyable. The political thriller of the year.”
