Roman Dalton

Created by Paul D. Brazill

A bloody, sleazy and often nifty blend of detective fiction and supernatural horror, Paul D. Brazill’s werewolf private eye ROMAN DALTON made his debut in a 2012 short story, “Drunk on the Moon,” for the late, lamented horror mag Dark Valentine.

He used to be a cop in The City, but now Roman works the mean streets as a private eye, getting by with a little help from his friends: bartender Duffy and his former cop partner Ivan Walker.

Pretty much the same old same old. You’ve read it a million times.

Except that three times a month, just about the time of the full moon, Roman also undergoes a wrenchingly painful transformation into a werewolf. No wonder he drinks…

The story proved popular enough to not only encourage the author to keep writing about the lupine sleuth, but to also inspire a motley international crew of crime writers and dark fiction miscreants to fill a couple of anthologies with more Roman Dalton yarns.

The author claims the series was inspired by singer Tom Waits, who had a bit part in the Wolfen, a 1981 horror flick, and wrote a song called–wait for it–“Drunk on the Moon.”

Paul D. Brazill was born in England and currently lives in Poland. His books include Last Year’s Man, Guns Of Brixton, Too Many Crooks, A Case Of Noir, and Kill Me Quick!, which have been translated into Italian, Finnish, Polish, German and Slovene. His short fiction, including the adventures of Roman Dalton, Werewolf Private Eye, have been published in various magazines and anthologies, including The Mammoth Books of Best British Crime. He also chronicles the adventures of middle-aged schlub Peter Ord, who chucks it all to become a private eye.
