Murder in the Library: True Crime

What? You thought I made this all up, or ripped it off from Wikipedia? Nope. Here are some of the books that inspired me to create this site, and the books I’ve used to cobble it together over the years, as well as the ones I’ve discovered along the way. If you like this site, you may find some of these as fascinating as I do. The ones on this page are general reference books, covering the whole spectrum of the mystery genre. Other pages list more specialized books.

True Crime

Obviously, there are a trillion zillion books about real-life crime and investigation out there that might help budding P.I. writers and engross readers.

Some of these books just popped into existence, and just as quickly vanished. Others were standard texts for years, frequently revised and updated. But even outdated books can be fascinating — and ideal if you’re writing a historical mystery.

This is by no means definitive, and I’m willing to hear any suggestions or recommendations. Writers, are there any books you’ve found particularly useful?.
