The Thrilling Detective Zooms

And Other Video Appearances

During the pandemic, when we were all hunkered down in our bunkers, and I was going out of my fucking mind, I tried out what was then a new-fangled idea: hosting a Zoom broadcast.

Everyone else was doing it, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Our first Zoom, held back in May 2020, was a small but genuine success, and I hosted several more over the next year. They were always informal but happening gatherings, attended by a small but enthusiastic bunch of P.I. fans, writers, editors, fans and even poets. Over four of five meetings, we discussed bad TV and film adaptations, upcoming books worth reading (or avoiding), and who made the best (and the worst) Marlowe. We had readings, and opinions and digressions flew all over the place, and it was great fun. I think we topped out at about 70 attendees, and then, suddenly, the numbers dropped.

The problem, of course, was that—as I said—everyone was doing it. And so I pulled the plug. I may plug the Zoom machine back in one day, if there’s enough interest.

Meanwhile, I’ve been invited to a couple of Dan Schneider Video Interviews (“The Most Widely Read Interview Series In Internet History!”) by Dan “The Man” himself. I’m not sure if I say anything astounding, but they were a lot of fun.
