Hard-living womanizer and “purveyor of information”(he doesn’t like the term “private eye”),  MARTY RANDOLPH likes to be in control of things, but his playboy lifestyle doesn’t always make it easy. And it gets even worse when he realizes the woman he picked up in a bar the other night might just be the “girl of his dreams.” Nor does it help that “Lloyd,” a loose cannon psycho whom he crossed paths with during a previous investigation, has set his sights on Marty.

That’s the premise of Running from the Sunrise, the 2017 debut novel from a Marin County defense attorney who’s made national headlines with some of the cases, and is known locally for his love of Humphrey Bogart, and his flashy bling. A busy man, the book was started years ago, but remained unfinished until a conversation with an editor friend prompted him to pick it up again. Working mornings and weekends on a 1980s-era WordStar word processing program, he finished off the manuscript and sent it off to Rare Bird Books in Los Angeles, who published it, tagging the novel “a hard-boiled detective story on the beaches of Florida and Southern California.”
