Created by Michael Z. Lewin
April 2025 was supposed to mark the release date of Michael Z. Lewin’s latest novel, Ready to Confess, which would introduce his latest detective, LYNX.
Given Lewin’s impressive track record (he’s the man behind such memorable — if quirky — gumshoes as police Lieutenant Powder and private eyes such as Albert Samson and The Lunghi Detective Agency, this was good news. I’ve always had a soft spot for his quirky character-driven work.
And the premise seemed pretty promising, too.
Lynx is an affable young man at loose ends, with, we’re told, “poor impulse control.” Deciding this could be a professional asset, he decides to cash in on it, signing on with a buddy who just happens to be a successful Midwestern private detective, “more tech-guy than rough and tumble.”
So, when the going gets tough, he gives Lynx a call.
Sounds good, right?
Except… after announcing its release, the book was withdrawn, at least in Canada and the States. I’m not even sure, as I write this, if it’s available in the UK — there don’t seem to be any reviews out there, not even on Goodreads, although there is a blurb by Liza Cody, author of the Anna Lee series, who was presumably supplied with a pre-release ARC by the publisher.
So, like I said, what the hell?
