Annie McIntyre

Created by Samantha Jayne Allen

“Life is long. Hard to see a shape or any kind of arc while you’re living it.”
–Next of Kin

A newly minted college grad finds herself back in her small hardscrabble hometown of Garnett, Texas,  ANNIE McINTYRE is tired of waitressing and a life seemingly going nowhere (career opportunities not exactly knocking in Garnett). Fearful of it all slipping away, she reluctantly joins the family business–a detective agency. Mostly at the urging of her retired-sheriff-turned-P.I. grandfather, Leroy.

The rest of the family’s not so sure.

The series follows the brooding rookie gumshoe as she learns the ropes. Surprise, surprise! it turns out she has a knack for the work. Meanwhile, the author nails the grit and dark secrets of small town Texas life: the dirt backroads, the oil fields, the shot-and-a-beer dives and the fly-specked backrooms–the places where everybody knows everybody, and last night’s secrets are tomorrow morning’s diner gossip. And Annie is fascinating to follow; a young detective who feels (and thinks) too much, but might–just might–have carved out some sort of life.
