In The Big Shakedown, a 2026 four-issue comic mini-series from Dark Horse, it’s the not-so-distant future and the long-promised “Big One” has finally hit, laying waste to most of Los Angeles, crumbling its freeways, leveling its skyscrapers and otherwise reducing much of the town to debris.
Now, five years later, the federal government has turned its back on the survivors, refusing to rebuild or even lend a hand (Hey, it could happen!), transforming the City of Angels into the City of Rubble, populated only by those too poor, too stubborn or too stupid to leave.
That includes scooter-riding private eye ESTER BLANCO, she of the tank tops and snarly attitude, who finally sees a way out when she’s hired by a man desperate to find his missing daughter — in a town where a third of the population is already missing.
But hey, as Ester says, “Let’s be honest. You can‘t beat the weather.”
And then she adds “But me…? I fucking hate it here.”

THE BOTTOM LINE: In thisfour-part comic mini-series from Dark Horse, the BIG ONE has finally hit Los Angeles, turning the City of Angels into the City of Rubble, and the federal government has turned its back on the survivors (Hey, it could happen!). Five years on, a scooter-riding PI finally sees a way out — if she can just find this guy’s missing daughter… in a town where a third of the population is still missing.
