Pseudonym of Eugene Franklin Bandy, Jr.
Here’s another spin on the Nero Wolfe/Archie Goodwin formula. Pill-popping BERKELEY HOY BARNES is a New York City hypochondriac, and former lawyer turned private eye, who really doesn’t like meeting people he doesn’t know. He relies on LARRY HOWE to do the legwork, keep track of his medication, handle the paperwork, and of course, narrate his adventures.
Eugene Franklin (actually Eugene Franklin Bandy, Jr.) was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and worked as an author, newspaperman and an account executive with several advertising agencies. He’s the creator of another private eye, Kevin MacInnes, who appeared in a couple of books, one of which won an Edgar for Best Paperback Original of 1978.
