Eyes/Alphabetical

A never-complete listing of private dicks and janes, and selected other tough guys and gals, listed by character, with all appearances in novels, short stories, film, television, radio and other media that I could find.

Inclusion on this list generally means I’ve heard of the eye, and that if a bio and bibliography is missing, chances are that it’s forthcoming, but not necessarily. If I seem to have neglected your fave, why not contact me?

If you can’t remember the name of the eye you’re looking for, you can always search for them via the Film, Television, Radio or Comics listings. Or you can use the Search Engine at the bottom left of every page.

And just to complicate things, we’re in the midst of a YUGE move right now, as entries from out old site are being transferred over here. Those that have already made the leap into this brave new world are highlighted in BOLD below. Gotta suggestion who should be next? Lemme know…

Remember, your comments, suggestions, corrections and contributions are always welcome. At the tone, just leave your name and number and I’ll get back to you…

And before you get all hot and bothered and start getting your panties all twisted because I left your hero off the list, please read What is a private eye?

Unnamed

Occasionally the limits of my research fail to turn up the actual name of a detective, or the author declines to provide that little tidbit. Among those who shall remain nameless”

Worth Mentioning

  1. hi .I havent seen on Thrilling Detective in the authors or private detectives page anything relating to one of my favorite writers Carter Brown ,alan g yates . Are you planning on doing a bio or anything on him or his PI detectives.? im kinda new to the website so maybe I missed something . keep up the good work .

    1. I have files on Danny Boyd, Mavis Seidlitz and Rick Holman on my old site — they haven’t been transferred yet (maybe this week?. You can find links for all three by searching the alphabetical listing of private eyes under “Browse This Site” up at the top of this page. I haven’t done a file on Brown himself yet, although I do have some notes on him.

  2. Got a new detective for your list: Hamilton Cleek. He appeared in the short story collections, “Cleek, the Master Detective” and “Cleek’s Government Cases,” both by T.P. Hanshew. “Master Detective” was published in 1918.

  3. One detective you seem to be missing is Jason Goodwin’s Yashim the Eunuch, who was introduced by Jason Goodwin in The Janissary Tree. This takes place in the 19th Century, shortly after the Ottoman Empire disbanded the Janissary Corps.

Don’t kid yourself: Yashim’s lack of testicles doesn’t make him any kind of wimp: he’s tough, both physically and mentally, and can still enjoy the ladies in a carnal fashion.
