In Steven John’s Three A.M. (2012), set in a nightmarish near-future, it’s up to cynical, ruthless private eye TOM VALE to make his way through an America that’s been devastated by disease and shrouded in a perpetual fog for the last fifteen years. It’s so bad even the sun’s not bothering to show up on any sort of regular basis…
And then, out of the murk, a babe (she of the eyes as grey as midnight) walks into a hermetically sealed dive bar, interrupting Tom’s smoking and Scotch-drinking, offering him fifty thousand bucks to help clear a prisoner of what she claims is a trumped-up murder charge.
Tom spits out the first person narration in a steady stream, snappy and sharp, of course.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Steven John is a writer living from Glendale, California (via Washington DC), who’s contributed to numerous websites and journals. His first novel Three A.M. was published in 2012, and Outrider , a sci-fi novel also set in the near-future, followed in 2014. When not writing or spending time with his family, Steven tries to squeeze in some mountain climbing.
