Rick Buchanan

Created by Jim Beaver

Ex-Marine RICK BUCHANAN is a Dallas eye who supplements his “near-bust” income (and has a lot of fun) with a side gig doing gunfight shows at Six-Gun City, an Old West theme park out on the highway between Tulsa and Oklahoma City. He claims it’s “more fun than fishing.”

Rick  made his debut in Blood Show (2024), a 13,000 novelette, that has him investigating the death of a fellow actor. It’s all rendered in first person cowboy from Rick’s point of view, with a lot of dropped g’s and plenty of range-riding palaver: ain’ts, skedaddles and the like abound.

Depends of your taste for sustained dialect, but knowing Jim, it ought a be fun.

I reckon.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Actor and writer Jim Beaver was born in Laramie, Wyoming, the son of a preacher man (yes, he was), and raised in and around the Dallas suburbs. Following high school and a year of college, he joined the Marines and served as a radioman in Vietnam, before attending Oklahoma Christian College, where he first became interested in acting. If you love the stuff on this site, you’ll probably recognize author/actor Jim Beaver. He’s been in a ton of crime-related television and film roles, probably most notably in Deadwood, Supernatural and Justified, and served as  biographical consultant on George Reeves (he’s a fan) for the semi-biopic private eye flick Hollywoodland (2006).
