Solitaire-playing, middle-aged Pittsburgh P.I. CASEY CARMICHAEL has an office in the Haller Building from which he scrapes by, and is described as “big, tough and cheap” in Baker and Nietzel’s One Hundred and One Knights.
Gee, makes him sound like a steak.
But I’m not sure I’d trust him. His application for a P.I. license was greased along by the FBI, who employed him to keep an eye on student activists (ie: “commies”) during his college years.
“I just handed over information of their activities, their causes and their friends. It was 20 years ago, or almost. And it didn’t bother me at all anymore. Not a bit.”
Must have made him real popular on campus…
Still, he does okay in his one and only appearance, The Janus Murder, a 1979 PBO for Leisure, re-released in 2008 as POD and e-book.
He’s hired by Diana, a sexy rich girl, to investigate the murder of her father–for which her fiancée has already confessed. It seems like a slam dunk. And Janice, the hot babe reporter covering the same story, isn’t too hard on the eyes either…
