Sandy Corrigan

Created by Thomas B. Cavanagh

SANDY CORRIGAN used to work as a hooker in Orlando, Florida, using the street name “Diamond,” but that was a long time ago.

She’s found peace of a sort at the ripe old age of thirty-one, raising  her young son Tyler, and working at Class A Investigators, her older brother Billy’s detective agency, putting her past behind her.

Well, sorta–when we first meet her in her promising series debut, 2024’s Diamond Cut, she’s setting herself up as bait to lure in a wandering husband, hoping to get the goods on him in a divorce case. As she puts it, “I used to get paid for sex. Now… I get paid not to.”

Still, she’s not quite as hard-boiled as she sounds. She’s beginning to have second thoughts, sliding right into a full-blown panic attack as she reels the sucker in. Maybe the past isn’t so long ago, after all.

And soon after, the past comes knocking again when Collette, an old friend and co-worker from her past shows up, asking her to look into the disappearance of a fellow prostitute, a young Vietnamese girl who hasn’t been seen for a week. She also runs into another old friend, the author’s other series eye, Mike Garrity, whom she describes as “from a competing but friendly agency.”

Supposedly Diamond Cut is the first book in the “Gemstone” female private eye series. Not sure what that means, exactly. Will each book feature a different female private eye?

Because honestly? I’m not that crazy about the yawn-inducing cover, but I kinda like Sandy and her matter-of-fact bluntness.
