Matt Singer & Jamal Wade

“Sleuthin’ ain’t pretty.”
— Matt warns a potential client

Trouble may be their business, but it doesn’t pay well enough for SoCal private detectives MATT SINGER and JAMAL WADE, so they come up with what they hope will be a slam dunk side hustle: real estate.

But flogging McMansions in the southern California beach town of Paradise (aka “Paraíso Del Mar“) doesn’t go quite as smoothly as they’d hoped–a client theirs is found brutally slain in a house they’ve listed in their debut novel, Death in Paraíso (2019).

But I guess they stick to it, because in their second outing, 2022’s Paraíso Lost, their company Singer & Wade Real Estate is still hanging on, even if showings are few and far between lately. Which means it’s back to the shamus game…

Jack’s the smart ass narrator, the self-appointed silver-tongued devil. Jamal is the Black one, clocking in at 230 and 6’4″, a summa cum laude graduate from Emory whose diction slides easily into ghettospeak in a way that will instantly recognizable for anyone familiar with Robert B. Parker‘s Spenser and Hawk–an obvious inspiration for this easy-going series.
