(1953–)
James M. Reasoner has written tons of private eye stuff, in between about a zillion Westerns. Besides the thirty-six Mike Shayne stories he wrote as “Brett Holliday” for Mike Shayne Mystery Magazine, he’s highly regarded among fans of the genre for Texas Wind, a much beloved P.I. novel, and the Markham short stories, featuring a Chandleresque Texas gumshoe, as well as creating a few other minot eyes.
Former federal lawman turned railroad detective DAN BOYD is one of ’em.
He only appeared in one short story, “Woolies,” in a 2000 Western anthology called Tin Star, but he had already popped up as a supporting character in several of Reasoner’s Westerns.
