Flag down some Tartan Noir, lads!
Thirty years a Glasgow constable, BLAKE GLOVER has retired and returned to his hometown of Fraserburgh on the north-east coast of Scotland with his tail between his legs — dour, disgraced and not at all sure where his life is heading, or if returning was a good idea or not. He’s been gone a long time, and yet he’s still haunted by the murky circumstances surrounding his mother’s death from cancer years ago.
But for now, he’s content to drive a cab (for what he calls “the worst taxi service in town”) and keeping his head down, reluctantly (for the most part) running into old friends and neighbors.
Yep, add him to the its of cab-driving eyes and almost-eyes who, for one reason or another, just can’t keep out of trouble.
For Blake, it starts in the The Cost (2025), the noir-tinged series debut, when he’s asked to, you know, look into the disappearance of a young Polish woman who was recently fired from her job as a maid at a posh hotel for stealing.
Simple enough, until it all goes awry.
And so it goes…
A sequel, The Fracture (also 2025), followed shortly after, and more are promised.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
A founding director of Bloody Scotland, Scotland’s annual International Crime Writing Festival, Gordon Brown, writing as Morgan Cry, has several novels and short stories under his belt. That includes the Blake Glover series, set in and around Blake’s childhood home town of Fraserburgh. He also runs a strategic planning consultancy now, but he’s been a bit of a wandering jack-of-all-trades,flogging pizzas in Toronto, selling beer (non-alcoholic) in the Middle East, launching a creativity training business, floating a high tech company on the LSE, emceeing a two-day music festival and for some reason being booed by 49,000 people while on the pitch at a major football Cup Final. He lives in Scotland and is married with two children. So far without incident…
