Hoo-boy! You want it steamy?
Harlequin‘s short-lived Intrigue Noir series (four books?) offered plenty of panty-wetting innuendo amid the usual trappings of “noir” fiction: bounty hunters, scam artists, private detectives, femme fatales, and the usual melange of blackmail, murder, nasty secrets and scandal. Plus, of course, more than a little romance. Or at least sex.
Plus, some carefully distressed covers, perhaps suggesting old pulp fiction?
In Toxic (2014), hunky, bicep-bulging Chicago P.I. J.P. McCOY goes undercover as a bartender at a restaurant belonging to former Vegas showgirl and recent widow Ronnie Tate (“sin in stilettos”) in the sleazy beach town of Crystal Water, Florida. He’s been hired to find out what happened to a Miami big shot’s missing mistress, last seen working there.
Needless to say, innuendo, entendres that barely double, and sparks of various colors fly…
