Introducing Pete Brass…
Violence is his business.
Girls are his pleasure.
Mixing them is his trouble.
And this time he’s done it once too often.
It was a fine introduction, printed right there on the very first page of this 1957 Dell paperback original by Robert Donald Locke. There was even a blurb by Frank Kane on the cover, calling it “strong stuff” and testifying that he got a “real belt” out of Brass.
But Los Angeles private eye PETE BRASS was never heard from again.
Haven’t read this one, and can’t find much info on it, although John Conquest in Trouble is Their Business tagged Brass as “as tough and durable as his name.”
The book does have a pretty nifty cover by Al Brule, though. In fact, most online mentions of the book focus on the cover.
My guess? A pretty generic hard-boiled PI novel, with a great cover. The era was full of them.
