JORDAN LACEY is a quietly quirky ex-cop with her own way of doing things, who not only runs an antiques business, First Class Junk, but also sets up her own private investigation firm (the only one) in the sleepy and and relatively crime-free seaside town of Latching, West Sussex, England. She sells curios and whatnot (ie: junk) to make ends meet, hoping she can squeeze out a living — at least until her detective agency takes off.
But right off the bat, in her debut, 2000’s Pray and Die, a nun is murdered, which throws her into the thick of things and makes her presence known to the locals. More cases follow in this series that —despite its foreboding covers — is rather lighthearted and even goofy at times, as Jordan takes on all manner of assignments, from department store security and investigating the suspicious death of a deep sea diver to climbing up a tree to carry out a little night time surveillance or suffering the consequences of a suit of armor falling on her at a local pub.
Maybe that’s what Marlowe meant about it not being a game for knights…
Anyway, Jordan is supposed to be charmingly eccentric, but hunky heartthrob Detective Inspector James of Latching’s finest remains stubbornly unconvinced.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Stella Whitelaw began her writing career as a cub reporter on a newspaper and become the youngest female chief reporter in London. She has had over fifty-five novels published, as well as approximately 325 short stories in national women’s magazines. She was Secretary of the Parliamentary Press Gallery at the House of Commons and lives in Surrey with a multitude of cats.
