West Investigations (Ryan West, Shawn West, James West & Gideon Wright)

Created by K.D. Richards

“I’m a PI. I know how to handle myself.”
Shawn West in Missing at Christmas

Is this a first for Harlequin?

Not just a steamy one-off, but a whole series based around a detective agency?

African-American stud RYAN WEST is the hard-nosed top dog at West Investigations, specializing in personal protection, and so he gets to be the hero of the first book, Pursuit of the Truth (2021). Of course, there has to be a meet cute, and in this case it’s when an attempt is made on the life of the women he’s supposed to protect. hotshot hotel CEO Nadia Shelton. Naturally he stops the attempt, and before you can say “Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner,”  the inevitable sparks fly.

But Ryan isn’t the only hunk employed by West Investigations. In the second book, Missing at Christmas (2021), it’s SHAWN WEST (Ryan’s brother, who also works for the agency) who saves a damsel in distress while working another case, and more sparks fly, although this time it’s more of a re-meet cute–the woman is the one he can’t forget.

The third entry spotlights another West Investigations operative, GIDEON “The Ice Man” WRIGHT, who’s assigned to protect a scientist whose research into cancer has made her a target. When her lab is destroyed by an arsonist, she asks for help from Gideon, who just happens to be her ex. As one reviewer tagged it, it’s  a “good second chance romance accompanied by action-packed suspense.”

Book #4, Shielding Her Son (2022), finds JAMES WEST, yet another member of the team, going undercover in cottage country to keep an eye on a woman in the next cabin, who’s becoming suspicious of her new neighbour… “despite their sizzling chemistry.”

And so it goes… each book (so far) spotlights another exceedingly attractive member of West Investigations (judging from the covers, all their employees of West Investigations–and clients–are Black), and follows their investigation… which inevitably leads to the love of their life. Shoot-outs, close calls and of course romance are to be expected, and “uplifting endings” are promised.
