Rory Byrne

Created by C.S. Poe

“Dress like a PA. That was an easy enough instruction—if I knew what the hell a PA was.”

Prickly, workaholic Big Apple private eye RORY BYRNE of Dupin  Private Investigations may not be the most likable guy in town, but he’s gained a solid rep over the last twenty years as someone the New York’s movers and shakers can trust.  But when a hotshot (ie: pain in the ass) television producer, John Anderson, hires him to recover a stolen script, Rory’s not sure if he can trust the client, in the (alleged) one-off novella “Lights! Camera! Murder!” which appeared in Footsteps in the Dark, a 2019 M/M anthology.

Poe? Dupin? Hmmm….

Coming off a nasty break-up, he could probably use the distraction: in the first few paragraphs, his ex calls him a “dipshit,” a “son of a bitch” and an “asshole”. And that’s before he’s finished his morning coffee.

But the job turns out to not be quite the diversion he’s hoped for — to get to the bottom of things, it looks like Rory will have to go undercover as a production assistant on the set of a historical drama being shot out in Queens. But things get even more complicated when he finds himself attracted to the out and outspoken lead actor Marion Roosevelt.

Lambda Literary and EPIC awards finalist C.S. Poe writes gay mystery, romance, and paranormal books, and is an avid fan of coffee, reading, and cats. In this, her first P.I. effort, she nails the attitude and keeps the dialogue crisp and the patter snappy. Which bodes well for Rory, who made his novel-length debut in Lights. Camera. Murder. in 2020.
