Created by Peter Kurtz
Wily, suave and sophisticated (although perhaps not quite as wily, suave and sophisticated as he thinks), private eye NICK MONTAINE plies his trade in Atlanta, Georgia, with the help of his partner Vern Wister, an ex-cop who nobody ever considered wily, suave or sophisticated. Vern handles the rough stuff, and mans the offices of Montaigne-Wister in downtown Atlanta when Nick’s not there.
Which leaves room for Nick to indulge in things like his beloved Porsche, his equally beloved girlfriend Annette McBain, retro jazz (of course) and… cinnamon chewing gum?
So far, Nick and Vern have appeared in two self-published novels, with more promised, though you better brace yourself for occasional swinging-for-the-fences prose like “he couldn’t help wondering though that a cloud of morbidity seemed to perpetually hang over Turlock like a wet mist on a lake.”
Still, Nick and Vern make for an entertaining pair of detectives.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
A gratefully retired technical writer who disdains the military-industrial complex, Peter Kurtz lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with his wife Lynn, and enjoys running, music, reading, travel, and watching Winnie the Pooh with his three granddaughters. He’s also an avid hiker and has written Evergreen Dreaming: Trail Tales of an Aging Hiker. He puts that experience to very effective use in the first book in the Nick Montaigne series, when Nick is hired by an Atlanta lawyer to find his son, last seen hiking the Appalachian Trail.
