Eva Wylie

“I’ll give you some advice for free. If you set out to be a baddie in this life don’t count on any applause.”

Make no mistake. EVA WYLIE‘s no trim, petite female California-tanned gumshoe with a cute little turned-up nose, dressed in a smart little ensemble, waiting around for some cop boyfriend to come rescue her.

Nope. Eva’s big, ugly, mean-tempered and more than able to take care of herself, thankyouveryfuckingmuch. She’s a part-time security guard and part-time professional wrestler, known in the ring as the notorious = London Assassin, and she doesn’t take any crap from anyone.

Another reason, no doubt, that there’ll always be an England.

She was a welcome respite from the sudden horde of female eyes that seemingly appeared overnight in the wake of the success of Sharon, Kinnsey, V.I. and Cody’s own Anna Lee, who made a brief cameo in Wylie’s, 1992’s Bucketnut, and appears in the other books, as well.

In fact, by the third novel, Musclebound (1997), hard-luck Eva, contrary to the end, is so close to going down the drain that she’s forced to take a job with Anna, whom she thinks of by now as “The Enemy.”

Liza Cody was born in London, and attended the City and Guilds of London Art School and the Royal Academy School of Art, supporting herself as a painter. She has worked as a film studio technician, a furniture-maker, a photographer, a graphic designer and an assistant at Madame Tussauds.
