Zachary Goldman

Created by P.D. Workman

Sad songs say so much?

ZACHARY GOLDMAN is a private investigator.”Flawed with a capital F,” as the blurbs proudly proclaim.

Then again, they go on to say that “Maybe being broken makes it easier for others who have faced tragedy to trust him. Walk with Zachary as he solves cases that will stretch his abilities to the limit.”

A rough-and-tumble childhood that included learning disabilities, abuse, neglect and  being a ward of the state, and an adulthood that sports a busted marriage, estranged siblings, a couple of fires where he lost everything, and assorted other tragedies and traumas still haunt him —especially around the holidays — and he suffers from major bouts of depression. Including a couple of stay in psych wards.

He’s no rough’n’tough guy, either, that’s for sure. Just average height and build, ends  up in the hospital with alarming frequency, and somehow his past is always catching up with the poor guy, but somehow he abides. He throws himself into his work as the sole operative for Goldman Investigations of Roxboro, Vermont, right near Montpelier.

He’s dogged, determined and the surprisingly resilient hero in a barrage of books (sometimes as many as three or so a year) by the prolific P.D. Workman. There’s even a spin-off series of a dozen or so (so far) mysteries featuring Zach’s girlfriend, Kenzie Kirsch, a medical examiner.
