“If you’d been ready for it, I would have hit you a whole lot harder and you’d still be down.”
SAM QUINTON is a former professional wrestler of all things, turned part-time private investigator and full-time owner of The Blaster gym in Providence, Missouri, trading in on his rep as the former champ “The Blond Bomber.”
Sure, he’s a bit of a grouch, and an occasional smart ass, but we’ve all seen that before. What makes this series work is the no-frills first person narration by Sam, and the characters who surround him. Like Lisa, the Blaster’s manager, who Sam worries is turning his beloved gym into a “ladies place,” or Lt. Santiago of the local police, a rather reluctant “cop buddy.”
And then there’s the big man himself, who keeps a running commentary on everything from snotty kids and yuppie housewives to his regular workouts and the realization that he’s getting any younger.
Like, who is?
