Sam Quinton

Created by Kevin R. Doyle

“If you’d been ready for it, I would have hit you a whole lot harder and you’d still be down.”

Well, it takes all kinds.

SAM QUINTON is a former professional wrestler of all things, turned part-time private investigator and full-time owner of The Blaster gym in Providence, Missouri, trading in on his rep as the former champ “The Blond Bomber.”

Sure, he’s a bit of a grouch, and an occasional smart ass, but we’ve all seen that before. What makes this series work is the no-frills first person narration by Sam, and the characters who surround him. Like Lisa, the Blaster’s manager, who Sam worries is turning his beloved gym into a “ladies place,” or Lt. Santiago of the local police, a rather reluctant “cop buddy.”

And then there’s the big man himself, who keeps a running commentary on everything from snotty kids and yuppie housewives to his regular workouts and the realization that he’s getting any younger.

Like, who is?

Kevin R. Doyle teaches junior and senior English at a high school in rural Missouri and writes crime and horror novels. Among his work are the novels The Group, When You Have to Go There, and  The Litter. The first book in the Sam Quinton series, Squatter’s Rights, was nominated for the 2021 Shamus Award for Best First PI Novel.

  • “Charming characters match the quick and easy reading plot. With any luck, Sam will be back soon.”
