Created by Meg Perry
Another spin-off from the frighteningly prolific author’s popular, long-running series featuring academic librarian Jamie Brodie, the ANGELES INVESTIGATIONS books follow Jamie’s brother KEVIN BRODIE and his Los Angeles (well, duh!) detective agency, comprising himself, and partners fellow ex-cops ROB JONES and JAMILAH DALY.
But both Kevin and Jamilah had already appeared, not just in the Jamie Brodie books, but also in a previous spin-off series which had them working together for Pasadena’s District Attorney’s Bureau of Victim Services. In fact, the final book in the series, 2023’s Accessory to Death has Kevin, Ron and Jamilah setting up the Brentwood-based Angeles Investigations, priming readers for the first book in the Angeles Investigations series, Cheated to Death, which came out the same week, and Jamie soon becomes the official “in-house researcher” for the newly formed agency.
Naturally, all these characters–and Kevin’s UCLA girlfriend (who used to work with Jamie) and later wife Kristen Beach–wander through all of Perry’s series. Of course, they all know each other to death, and you’d need a weed whacker to cut through all the various entanglements, connections and relationships between them all.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Like her protagonist Jamie Brodie, hard-charging author Meg Perry is an academic librarian who’s partial to a good mystery. “Several years ago,” she explains, “it occurred to me that solving a crime has some similarities to answering a particularly difficult research question – we gather background information, look for clues, and eventually put the pieces of the puzzle together. I decided I’d like to read about an academic librarian who helped solve crimes through research; when I couldn’t find what I was looking for, I decided to write the stories I’d like to read.”
