Zach Davies

” You can’t just…just pick up and become a PI on a whim.”

That’s the “friendly” advice given to CPA turned fledgling private eye ZACH DAVIES, whos struggling to keep his late fathers struggling detective agency  afloat. Thats a lot of struggling.

Of course, it doesn’t help that the advice being given is coming from smug rival gumshoe Flint Carey, who wants to buy out the Davies Detection Agency—and its client list.

Not that the list is all that extensive—since his dad’s death, new business hasn’t been exactly been pounding on the door.

Which is why Zach reluctantly agrees to take on Alton Beacher’s oddball case, in Puzzle for Two (2023), a soft-boiled, screwball yarn by M/M author Josh Lanyon with decidedly cozy overtones.

How cozy, you may ask? Well, the Davies Detection Agency is in a shopping centre. And Carey Confidential is at the other end of the same shopping centre. In the small sleepy beach town of Ensenada del Sello, California, up near Monterey.

Now that’s cozy.

And of course romance does rear its ugly head. Handsome, hunky Alton is also a wealthy whackadoo, the founder of the Beacher Toy Company, and he wants Zach to pose as his boyfriend, while Zach tries to figure out who’s sending Alton increasingly disturbing death threats.

But it’s not his eccentric client who piques Zach’s interest—that would be his across-the-strip mall rival: Flint.
