Samson O’Brien

A new series, dubbed “The Dales Detective Mysteries,” initially published in the U.K., seems to be a blend of the hard-boiled (via Robert Galbraith) and the English romantic cozy.

In Date with Death (2017), we meet police officer SAMSON O’BRIEN, who feels he’s been ousted from the force unfairly. But he’s not giving up. He drags his ass back home to rural Bruncliffe in the Yorkshire Dales in the north of England to set up the Dales Detective Agency, while he fights to be reinstated. Only problem is, the locals aren’t exactly happy to see him again. Oh, and he needs some office space.

Of course, you can’t have a meet cute without another player. Fortunately, small business owner Delilah Metcalfe, who operates a struggling web design and internet dating service, is looking for a tenant to rent out some office space.

Complicating matters is a serial killer who seems to be using Delilah’s speed dating events to choose his victims.

The author currently lives in the Yorkshire Dales herself, where she spends her time writing, running and biking. She has spent the majority of her time as an ESL teacher and has dabbled in bookselling, pawnbroking, waitressing and was once “checkout-chick” of the month at a supermarket in South Australia.
