A Seasonal Greeting Card from the Charleses
MGM publicity still for the release of Shadow of the Thin Man (1941)
Above is a publicity still for the release of Shadow of the Thin Man (1941, MGM), starring William Powell and Myrna Loy and as Dashiell Hammett’s Nick and Nora Charles. Of course by Shadow, the fourth in the series, Hammett had nothing to do with the film except for some cheque-cashing (and for a lot of fans, the introduction of Nick Jr. was about as welcome as the revival of Prohibition), but this cheesy stab at promotion goes down a lot easier eighty or so years down the road. And of course, Asta’s in it.
