This rude, crude buffoon makes Mike Hammer look like Ghandi.
Perpetually horny (and of course women can’t resist him) and excessively violent, it’s hard to believe that Los Angeles private eye SAM HUNTER isn’t some kind of parody, or some ironic tribute to bad P.I. literature.
Certainly, there’s nothing here to match the wit, humour and soul of author the author’s Jake Spanner in the Edgar-winning The Old Dick (1981).
Was this an alternative classic?
An early effort, rushed to print in the wake of The Old Dick‘s success?
An attempt to jump on the Men’s Adventure gravy train?
File this one under “Cheese.”
