Raymond Chandler Square, Los Angeles, December 13, 2018
It’s sad enough that Raymond Chandler still doesn’t have his own star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, but that’s run by a private entity now and any buffoon, reality show huckster or U.S. President can pretty much buy their own star — it’s pay-for-play.
But the City of Los Angeles could do a little better for Chandler, one of its most celebrated authors. It’s great that they’ve designated a block on Hollywood Boulevard and Cahuenga as “Raymond Chandler Square,” where private eye Philip Marlowe‘s office was supposedly located. That’s awesome. They’ve even posted a sign featuring a still of Bogey and Bacall (as Marlowe and Vivian Sternwood) from Howard Hawks’ The Big Sleep, plus a nifty little write-up.
But fer cryin’ out loud, couldn’t you guys at least spell “Philip” right?
