The Michael Shayne page from Radio’s Golden Years by Breese and Lynes

This is the Michael Shayne entry from Radio’s Golden Years: A Visual Guide to the Shows & Stars, a 1998 self-published, limited edition labour of love by Frank Bresee and Bobb Lynes. It may not be the most thorough of reference book on old time radio, but it just might be the most fun. It borrows the Ripley’s Believe It or Not format  for each of its 254 panels, focussing on a single show or radio-related topic. There’s a load of info on each show, scripted by Breese and drawn by Lynes, of the actors, producers, directors, writers, announcers, composers and even products.  Not just private eyes are covered, of course, but a lot of them made it into the book, including Big Town, Boston Blackie, Bulldog Drummond, Casey – Crime Photographer, The Fat Man, Johnny Dollar, Let George Do It, Mr. Keen: Tracer of Lost Persons, Nero Wolfe, Nick Carter, Pat Novak For Hire, Perry Mason, Philip Marlowe, Richard Diamond, Rocky Fortune, Sam Spade, Sherlock Holmes and The Thin Man.

Respectfully passed along by Kevin Burton Smith.
