The Magnum P.I. Ferrari with Magnum Figure Set
$3600???

Hailing back to when the show was just about the hottest thing on TV, this very collectible Magnum P.I. Car and Action Figure set from LJN Toys Ltd. recently caught my eye when one of them in near-mint condition was listed at Heritage Auctions. With opening bids starting at $3600.
Not bad for a cheesy and sorta cheap-looking plastic toy (for ages 3 and up) that probably went for (maybe) $10-15 when it first came out in 1982.
The set featured a bright red Ferrari 308 GTS — just like Thomas Magnum drove on the show. The real bait for kids, though, was the 3.75″ articulated action figure modeled after Selleck’s character that was included. According to Heritage, the set rates high on the collectibility scale, and is “highly sought after by 1980s pop culture collectors” and is “often considered a ‘holy grail’ vintage piece due to its scarcity in complete or graded condition.”
But 3600 bucks? Yikes!!!
Okay, I know there are collectors out there for just about everything under the son, but who knew how collectible anything from a show that went off the air almost forty years ago really was?
Certainly not me. Turns out there are Hot Wheels, action figures, lunch boxes, model car kits, T-shirts, Funko Pop!s, posters, baseball caps, Matchboxes, stickers, home decor items, model cars, license plates, pillow cases, coffee mugs, phone cases, socks, and Hawaiian shirts (of course!), all honoring the man with the ‘stache.
