JAYK, a private eye character spun off from the best-selling videogame Cyberpunk 2077 gets a chance to strut his stuff in a four-issue miniseries from Dark Horse Comics, Cyberpunk 2077: Jayk’s Case.
In the uncomfortably near future, Jayk’s hired to investigate the murder of a high-ranking corpo.
The only catch? Jayk’s been told the job isn’t to bring the culprit to justice, but rather to help the killer escape.
The standalone story plays out in the game’s dystopian hellscape of Night City, California (loosely based on Morro Bay, of all places), a nightmare world of cyberware, gangs, large guns, corporate treachery, and scads of secrets that nobody wants made public. Ever!
Plus numerous well-armed mercenaries and thugs of all kinds running amuck.
Fortunately, Jay is suitably hard-boiled; rough and tough and crazy enough to handle whatever comes his way. Which might come in handy‚ since the mighty Militech, this massive American megacorporation that specializes in weapons manufacturing and private military contracting, may have other plans for the killer.
And Jayk.
My fearless prediction? Things will blow up.
Hopefully, they’ll blow up good.
STRAIGHT FROM THE AUTHOR’S MOUTH
- “Writing crime noir stories is always an absolute blast, so I was excited when Dark Horse approached me to tell a gumshoe detective story in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. I hope fans fall in love with the new characters we’re introducing to Night City and be thrilled by the vicious, blood-soaked journey we’ve sent them on.”

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox
In one of the best-selling video games of all time, the player assumes the role of V, a mercenary who gets reluctantly gets jabbed with “biochip” containing an engram of legendary rockstar/terrorist Johnny Silverhand (portrayed by Keanu Reeves). As Johnny’s consciousness begins overwriting V’s, the two must work together to fight the evil Arasaka Corporation, which controls the city. Right. - CYBERPUNK
(aka “Cyberpunk 2020,” “Cyberpunk Red” & “Cyberpunk 2013”)
(1988, R. Talsorian Games)
Role-playing game
Created by Mike Pondsmith
The original game, set in 2013, included a 44-page Handbook, a 38-page Sourcebook, a 20-page Combat Book, four pages of game aids and two ten-sided dice. The rules and the play evolved through the years, and inspired numerous updates and accessories, and of course the subsequent videogame, plus novels, comics, card games, toys, cosplay costumes, and Lord knows what else. The creator, Mike Pondsmith, was inspired by the whole cyberpunk thing of the 1980s, particularly the 1986 novel Hardwired by Walter Jon Williams, who helped play-test the game. Other key influences included the films Blade Runner (1982) and Streets of Fire (1984). Surprisingly William Gibson‘s 1984 novel Neuromancer wasn’t an influence — Pondsmith didn’t even read it until a few years later.
