Mark Ash

Created by J.N. Charag
Pseudonym of Nathaniel Wolloch

In the 2023 novel Galilee, MARK ASH, a former FBI agent turned private eye, makes his way to Israel, summoned by local Jewish attorney Tova Hirschfeld, who’s notorious for defending Arabs. This time, she’s representing the family of Hanin Fareed, an eighteen-year-old Arab woman, her throat slit in what seems to have been an honor killing. The Israelis police suspect Hanin’s older brother, Souheil who may have ties to Hamas. And somehow, the U.S. State Department has their fingerprints all over the case.

Naturally.

Just to stir the pot further, though, this is all set against the seemingly never-ending political and cultural tensions and bigotry between Jews and Arabs, and the increasingly violent extremists on both sides.

Timely?

UNDER OATH

  • “Charag offers a riveting detective story—one that’s full of intrigue, suspense, and unpredictability…he manages to deliver more than just a simple murder mystery; he also provides readers with an affecting emotional drama with eye-opening sociopolitical commentary…A captivating book that’s both entertaining and provocative.”
    — Kirkus Reviews
  • “Charag does a masterful job with his large cast and never reduces them to mere stock figures…[He] doesn’t pull any punches…The scenes and the characters’ connection are developed beautifully but given an edge by readers’ suspicions that it will end badly…Still, amidst the seemingly intractable Mideast politics, Charag allows a welcome note of hope and redemption.”
