E.J. Kane

Created by Michael E. Jimerson

A thirty-year vet of the  Texas Rangers, E.J. KANE now works as an “independent sleuth” and freelance security consultant in the East Texas badlands where “the bland, khaki shades of drought punished the landscape.” He’s the hero in this top notch, action-packed series that digs way deeper (and darker) than expected, reminiscent at times of Ed Mathis’ Dan Roman series.

This aging cowboy gumshoe comes saddled with a bum knee; a slow, steady aw, shucks matter-of-factness when he speaks, and a family past he can’t quite shake: an ex-wife who’s also a hard-charging prosecutor, a dead son and a junkie daughter, and a slew of other personal demons. But he toughs it out, pondering the hard choices one has to make and where the lines between justice and revenge start to blur.

Also along for the ride is some sharp characters, some sharper dialogue, and a deeply felt sense of a sun-fried Texas landscape far from the urban glitter of Dallas or Houston.
